What Came Into the Kitchen
No groceries came in today — full leftover mode.
(But tomorrow = Costco reset day)
What I Cooked Today
Very minimal cooking from me today because I was gone from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. for a full-day board meeting for our homeschool co-op.
BUT before I left:
- Cooked a fresh batch of bacon in the morning
I’ve had a lot of questions about how I save and use bacon grease, so I’m working on a full breakdown of that — how I store it, how I use it, all of it. I’ve posted about this before and I think bacon can be such a great way to add flavor to any savory dish!
While this might look like empty parchment paper…it’s actually covered in liquid gold!

After that, my husband took over for the day (and documented it).
What We Ate
Breakfast
- Fresh bacon
- Toast
- Cereal
Looks like they even did some yard work while I was gone!

Lunch (Husband-Led Kitchen)
From the photos, it looks like they pulled together:
- Leftover chili
- Chicken
- Crispy chicken
- Odds and ends from the fridge
Exactly what I would have done — just using what we already had.

(I’m sure there were snacks in there too, even if they weren’t documented because I’m pretty sure my younger kiddos would lead a revolution if they didn’t get food every 2-3 hours)
Dinner
They went to church and then to my parents’ house for dinner.
My mom made chicken, and even sent leftovers home for me to eat when I got back late — which was very appreciated after a long day.

Kitchen Flow (How It’s All Working)
- Leftovers → carried the entire day (chili, chicken, etc.) – it’s ALL GONE!
- Bacon → fresh batch made and grease saved for future cooking
- Family systems → held up even when I wasn’t home
- Parents’ dinner → turned into another meal (leftovers for me!)
This is one of those days that reminds me the goal isn’t to cook every day —
it’s to have enough in place that things still work when you don’t.
What’s Next
Tomorrow is a Costco restock day.
We’ll reset the fridge, restock proteins, and start building out the next week again. – My family does lots of fun cooking for the holiday week leading up to Easter!
